The word “diet” makes me crazy – that’s why I have decided instead to focus on healthy eating. Now, I have read my share of articles and books on the topic of eating a healthy diet, and it is safe to say that I know exactly what to do.
But still, it can be hard. It feels hard – especially when I want to eat some fries or a slice of pizza. These things aren’t healthy, I know. So what is?
What is a healthy diet?
I refuse to fall into the trap of obsessing. But still, I feel I need to list the principals that, to me, make up a healthy diet.
- 3 healthy meals a day
- nutritious snacks
- adequate protein
- healthy fats
- drinking plenty of water
- lots of fruits and vegetables
- whole grains
I vow to make a constant, diligent effort to follow these guidelines. I also promise not to freak out if I “slip up” and decide to eat a food that isn’t so good for me. Come on, is it really a crisis if I eat ten French fries?
Staying the Course
You know what? Making promises to myself is one thing. Holding myself accountable and actually practicing what I am preaching is quite another. The challenge for the days to come is going to be concentrating and making the food choices I know I need to in order to have the body I want.
I know that proper nutrition is what my body needs in order to look and feel at its best. And, with my somewhat stressful lifestyle (I have lots of deadlines to endure) I know that eating this way will give me plenty of energy to get through.
